Yet another Eclipse bug.

March 8, 2010

“Application error”. Oh, really? And have they fixed the last bug I reported, where, when an error occurs, they direct me to the log file, using a little window with text that cannot be cut and pasted, so I had best remember? No, they have not. So I am not going to bother them with this bug, clearly, they are swamped with bugs. It’s open source, maybe some volunteer will fix this in their copious free time.

What I especially like, is that I’m the guy who’s supposed to go look for duplicates. “Application error”. I wonder if that appears in any other bug reports? Good grief.

I am also getting the same exception, but only in jre 1.7.0_25. How did you fix this issue? If you fixed it, please inform me please….
    thanks,
    Jayaprakash

    • dr2chase Says:

I think it was an issue with a plugin, not sure which one. So one of the plugins you use might not be compatible with latest Java release; you might try selectively disabling and re-enabling. You might have to start with a fresh Eclipse install and selectively install them.

I’m running Eclipse right now, Version: 4.2.2, Build id: M20130204-1200, under jdk 1.7.0_25, with a number of plugins, so it basically works.

    • dr2chase Says:

Eclipse bugs are Not My Job; they have a place where you can search for and report bugs, if you wish, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t pay a lot of attention to mixed installations. You only see them on my blog because I found that reporting bugs was pretty much useless and a waste of my time.

  2. jpsatyamJayaprakash Says:

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.
I am using eclipse 3.5 plugins as target platform, which I can not upgrade now. Some how, I need to fix this issue in current version of eclipse plugin only. In my platform, below is the plugin failing: org.eclipse.equinox.registry_3.4_20090520_1800.jar. Please let me know, if any patch is available for this bug.
