Induced demand, again.

Add 100 more spaces of bicycle parking at the Alewife MBTA station, and what happens? 100 more bikes show up. And they’re not just abandoned — bikes get tagged and then removed after 14 days.

    Wow, this is quite impressive. I remember when the Alewife station was built, and I always think it’s at the end of the world, but I guess all those bicycles represent people coming from further away.

    Bikes get tagged, but then no removal happens. There are currently bikes on Alewife racks with tags dated from July.
